Climate and Weather Hazards Conference
April 07, 2009

The Oklahoma Climatological Survey joins again with the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner to host the 4th annual Climate and Loss Mitigation Conference on April 9 at the National Weather Center. The one-day conference is designed for insurance agents, adjusters, and citizens to learn more about Oklahoma's weather extremes and how that impacts the insurance industry.

"The Climate and Loss Mitigation Conference has increasingly become one of the most popular seminars for adjusters, agents, and citizens," said Commissioner Kim Holland. "Our State's pool of resources at the National Weather Center and our experience dealing with nearly every kind of weather- and climate-related incident imaginable allows us to put on an event where participants leave with knowledge and resources they couldn't acquire anywhere else."

Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty will deliver the keynote address on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) recently reformed national catastrophe plan. A panel featuring members of the media and National Weather Service will discuss effective communication in a weather crisis. Other presentations include the challenges of a changing climate, reducing risk to wildfire, tornadoes in Oklahoma, floodplain management, business continuity, and finding weather and climate information on the web.

The conference is open to the public at a cost of $19. The seminar also provides six hours of continuing education credit for licensed producers and adjusters for $39. Lunch is included in the registration fee for all attendees.
